Mbombela – A woman’s Marmosets in all probability saved her life on Sunday when they kicked up such a racket that her attackers fled.
According to Netwerk24, Estelle Viviers was overpowered at her front door when she arrived home in eMalahleni at about 08:00.
“They beat me and forced me into the house,” she said. “I was beaten relentlessly – against my head, behind my neck, on my jaw – several places.”
Her Marmoset monkeys, Tazz and Zettie, were in her bedroom.
“They are normally loose, but I put them in a cage in my bedroom when I leave because I also have a puppy in the house.”
The monkeys were still in their cage when the attackers forced Viviers into her bedroom.
They apparently caused such a commotion that the attackers left her in the room and hotfooted it out of there.
“They can be so glad the Marmosets were in their cage. My husband can’t even kiss me hello if they are loose. The Marmosets would’ve really hurt the attackers.”
Viviers says her Labrador was poisoned about a month ago.
“But the attackers weren’t ready for my monkeys!”
They stole a PlayStation, hard drive, TV, microwave and other items.
Rika Verwey, a friend of Viviers’, confirmed her strong bond with her pets.
“That’s what monkeys do. You become part of their troop and then they are very possessive,” said Verwey.
Viviers received medical attention and is recuperating at home.
The Mpumalanga police couldn’t confirm the incident.
