A five (5) year old girl has been killed after attempted to cross the R102 near Phoenix a short while ago.
At approx 15:07 Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the R102 Northbound lane after motorist reported a pedestrian/vehicle accident.
Upon arrival Reaction Officers found that a child had been run over by a silver Toyota Corolla that was northbound towards Verulam on the R102.
The child suffered serious head & bodily injuries & was declared deceased by paramedics. The deceased is a resident of Umzinto & was holidaying with her cousins in Cornubia near Phoenix. At the time of the accident, the child was in the care of her aunt & was attempted to cross the main road with five other children and use a short cut up an embankment (picture 5) to walk home.
The child is a Grade R pupil at Kenterton Primary School located between Umzinto and Ixopo in the South Coast.
